Five years after acclaimed comeback album The Art of Dying and follow-up Killing Season, influential San Francisco thrash metal quintet Death Angel (with Jackson-wielding guitarist Rob Cavestany) has released its first-ever live DVD, Sonic German Beatdown, consisting of two full-length concerts filmed in Germany.

The two-disc DVD set presents performances from the 2007 Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and a 2008 club show in Adelsheim, Germany. Bonus material includes music videos for “Thicker Than Blood” and “Dethroned,” and a live CD of the Rock Hard Festival performance (also available as a vinyl double album).

Further, Cavestany and bandmate Ted Aguilar can be seen on EMGTV (www.emgpickups.com/pages/emgtv) demonstrating classic Death Angel riffs and discussing their gear; there’s also an interview there with Cavestany about his new signature Jackson “Death Angel” guitar.

Three New Jackson Models

Jackson is proud to announce the addition of three splendid new Pro Series models to the Bloodline—the SL3MG Soloist™, KV5FR King V™ and KE5FR Kelly™. All are equipped with a Floyd Rose® FRT-O2000 double-locking two-point tremolo.

The SL3MG Soloist is an upgraded version of the venerable SL3, with an alder body in several finishes (flame maple veneer on trans finishes), rock maple through-body neck, 24-fret compound radius rosewood fingerboard, active EMG 81 (bridge) and 85 (neck) humbucking pickups and black hardware.

The KV5FR King V is a menacing new take on Jackson’s classic King V, with an alder body available in Black, Bolted Steel and Snow White with black bevels. It too has a rock maple through-body neck, 24-fret compound radius rosewood fingerboard and black hardware, plus Seymour Duncan® JB™ (bridge) and Jazz™ (neck) humbucking pickups.

The KE5FR Kelly presents the latest version of one of Jackson’s most distinctive body shapes. Like its King V sibling, it boasts an alder body (this time in Black, Black with gold pinstripes and Snow White with black bevels), rock maple neck-through-body, 24-fret compound-radius rosewood fingerboard, black hardware and Seymour Duncan® JB™ (bridge) and Jazz™ (neck) humbucking pickups.

Like all Pro Series instruments, the SL3MG, KV5FR and KE5FR come with a Jackson molded hardshell case.

New Job For a Cowboy Album, Summer 2009 Tour Dates

JFAC guitarist Al Glassman and friend.

Jackson-wielding heavy music powerhouse Job For a Cowboy has wrapped up work on hotly anticipated sophomore album Ruination, due in July 2009.

Ruination, the follow up to the award-winning Glendale, Ariz., quintet’s 2007 debut album, Genesis, was recorded at Audio Hammer Productions in Sanford, Fla., and is the band’s first disc recorded with drummer Jon “the Charn” Rice, who has toured with the band since the release of Genesis. The album boasts sleek arrangement, thundering musical muscle, dexterous riffs by guitarists Bobby Thompson and Al Glassman and bassist Brent Riggs, keen dynamics and powerful vocals from Jonny Davy.

“Job For a Cowboy has toured the world and faced a ton of challenges over the course of the last year and a half,” Davy said. “All of the hard work that we’ve put in and everything that we’ve experienced is directly reflected in our new songs, which we know are our best yet. Stay tuned.”

With the release of Ruination, Job For a Cowboy will hit the road as a featured act on the 2009 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, appearing alongside Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage and several other acts. The 27-date tour starts July 10 in Sacramento, Calif.

Job For a Cowboy formed in Glendale, Ariz., in 2003. Deathcore EP Doom was released in 2005; the band signed with Metal Blade records later that year. Job For a Cowboy also earned a landslide of top media accolades, including being named among Alternative Press “Bands You Need to Know,” “Best Underground Band” at the Metal Hammer magazine Golden Gods Awards, Revolver “Breakthrough Bands That Will Be Kicking Your Ass This Year” and Total Guitar magazine “Hottest Guitar Bands.”

Bloodline Tour Metal Master Class Update

The Jackson Bloodline Tour Metal Master Class with Autumn’s End guitarist and top-level Jackson dude Chris Cannella is in full swing in May 2009, having enjoyed two stellar weeks in April in Florida and New York.

“The tour has been a great success and this is only the beginning,” Cannella said in late April. “Leitz Music in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Encore Music in Port Richey, Fla.; and House of Guitars in Rochester, N.Y., all have amazing staff and were really great. The best part of the whole thing is the attendees—everybody had great questions and really made it fun every night. Such great interaction, and lots of laughs. I really feel connected with so many of these people across the country.”

Jackson is presenting Cannella’s Metal Master Class at music stores nationwide through the end of June 2009. At each clinic, Cannella—Jackson’s product manager/artist relations rep and formidably talented Autumn’s End guitarist, songwriter and vocalist—demonstrates and explains his light-speed guitar techniques using whatever gear is in the store at the time, shares tone secrets and overall guitar setup tips, talks a little music theory and soloing style, and delves into Jackson’s dark yet colorful past.

His piratical look is pure Jackson, but the soft-spoken Cannella is actually a walking encyclopedia of metal in general and Jackson in particular. At his Metal Master Class clinics, the floor is always open to questions and valuable one-on-one interaction with guests.

May and June 2009 will find Cannella bringing the Bloodline to music retailers in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, California and Indiana. See a complete list of Jackson Metal Master Class dates, times and retailers at www.jacksonguitars.com/bloodlinetour.

Hatebreed to Release Covers Disc For the Lions May 5

Heads-up on Hatebreed: There’s a lot going on with the hardcore Connecticut quintet these days, not the least of which is the May 5 release of 18-song covers-only disc For the Lions, the return of original guitarist Wayne Lozinak and the May 14 start of work on the band’s next studio album.

For the Lions is a crushing collection of covers, with five digital singles rolled out consecutively on iTunes leading up to the album release date. The first four are already out—“Thirsty & Miserable” (Black Flag), “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies), “Shut Me Out” (Sick of it All) and “Ghosts of War” (Slayer). “Escape” (Metallica) will be released April 28. Hatebreed’s video for “Ghosts of War” (see it below) premiered in early April on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball.

Each digital track purchased will count toward the iTunes “complete my album” initiative in which the more music customers buy, the less they’ll pay for the full album on May 5.

The complete For the Lions track list includes all the songs mentioned above, plus “It’s the Limit” (Cro-Mags), “Refuse/Resist” (Sepultura), “Supertouch/Shitfit” (Bad Brains), “Hatebreeders” (Misfits), “Evil Minds” (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles), “Set it Off” (Madball), “Sick of Talk” (Negative Approach), “All I Had I Gave” (Crowbar), “Life is Pain” (Merauder), “Your Mistake” (Agnostic Front), “Hear Me” (Judge), “I’m in Pain” (Obituary) and “Boxed In” (Subzero)

Guitarist Lozinak has returned to the fold after the February 2009 departure of Sean Martin, and Jackson is delighted to report that Lozinak is wielding an SL2H Soloist™ model these days. Bassist Chris Beattie’s Jackson signature model, the aptly named Chris Beattie Signature Bass, was introduced in early 2005.

“When Hatebreed first started I played a Jackson/Charvel,” Lozinak said. “Now, almost 15 years later, I’m back in the band and still playing Jackson guitars. Whether it’s tight rhythms or shredding solos, nothing else plays as smooth and clean as a Jackson—the original high performance guitar.”

Hatebreed returns to the studio on May 14 to start of work on the band’s next album.
