British thrashers Evile released a digital-only single of the band’s cover of Pantera’s “Cemetery Gates” shortly before embarking on the first of two grueling back-to-back North American tours.
Evile recorded “Cemetery Gates” in 2009 for a special Metal Hammer tribute album honoring slain Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. Sadly, it was also the last song Evile recorded with longtime bassist Mike Alexander, who passed away in October 2009. “Cemetery Gates” is available now exclusively on iTunes, and also features a special version of the band’s “Time No More” with Japanese lyrics.
“Finally, people who don’t have the amazing Dimebag tribute issue put out by Metal Hammer can now download our cover of ‘Cemetery Gates’,” said Evile guitarist Ol Drake. “It was such an honor to be a part of the Dimebag tribute, and doing this track really meant a lot to Mike. I recently had the pleasure of speaking to Rex (Pantera bassist Rex Brown) about a few things, from the ‘Gates’ cover, which he enjoyed, to coping with a loss. I love the metal community!”
The first of two massive North American Evile tours in 2010, the Hordes of Chaos II Tour with German thrash friends Kreator, is now under way and wraps on March 31 in Atlanta. The second, the Killfest U.S.A. Tour with New Jersey thrash colleagues Overkill, begins April 1.
