I have just purchased what was labeled at a store as a Jackson Kelly 2. However I have since identified it as a Kelly 3. On the neck there is a 2 stamped into the fretboard at the base... My question is - What does this 2 represent?

Thanks for any feedback!

If it is a KE2, it is neck through, if it is a KE3, it is bolt on. A bolt on should not have any stamps at the end of the fretboard, only the neck through ones do. If possible, post a pic or a link to one of the stamp...

The neck is a bolt on.....It would not let me attach a file here so I am posting this facebook link. Hope this works..If you are not able to see it just let me know and I will figure out another place to upload it to! Thanks in advance.

Considering the poles on the pickups have been changed from black to chrome and the Duncan Designed logo was removed, I bet the previous owner did it for reasons only known to them (from 2002 through 2005 the 3's came with Duncan Designed Detonators). As for any factory or factory authorized refurbishing, that is not the industry standard for returning a guitar into the resale market. Check for the USED stamp on the back of the headstock.

Nice flame top on that Kelly, as well..

Edited for second theory: Maybe the previous owner had multiple guitars dismantled at one time and used the stamp to identify what neck went with what body..

I wonder if it is a 2nd choice neck out of the custom shop of something like that...! Maybe a wood grain mismatch on the back of the neck or something... No used stamp! I know for sure pickups are not DUncan design.. We replaced them with some hotter pickups.... !

Jackson did not offer necks for the "Pro" series for sale to the public. They were all mass produced in Japan, and the Custom Shop was not involved in general production. If the neck had been replaced, it would have been under warranty and still wound up with the used stamp on the back of the headstock. Didn't think those pickups were stock, but didn't want to assume anything..
