I got this new Jackson JS30KV that i'm going to mod, and i wanna replace the stock bridge pickup because it really sucks major balls.

I want a sound that bites a lot in the mid-highs and still sound thick.

THe guitar has a cedro body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

I thought of the SD JB4, what are your thoughts on that?

The style is Groove/ Thrash Metal in Half Step down.

Any help is welcome :)

The JB is pretty cool, but it's got this big spike in the upper mids that gives you quite a raspy tone. Some people like it, some don't. I found it to be a little woolly in the low end too. Have you considered going the active route? The EMG 85 would suit what you're talking about nicely or if you're a SD fan the blackouts are also excellent. Only problem is if you're going to do that you'll have probably have to replace the neck pickup also. The Dimarzio D Activators are also a good option, they'll give you an approximation of active pickup tone without having to switch out your neck pickup or cram a 9v battery in somewhere.

Well, i got a JB4 on my epiphone les paul standard and i find the sound i get perfect for my band, i really like the way it cuts on the mix.

I was asking this because a epi les paul standard and a jackson js30 sound nothing similar woodwise right? i'm pretty afraid that it would make the jackson sound very thin.

I'm going to try the following: swap the jb4 from the les paul into the jackson, use ernie ball (warm) instead of d'addario strings (bright), lower the pole pieces and increse the pickup height to maintain output.

If that sucks, i'm going to buy a SH-6, it would also be great for the sound i look for right?

I'd rather not go the active option, its too expensive for now, got other priorities.

Well, if you're happy with the JB in your LP I'm sure you'll be happy with it in your Jackson. To be honest I think the effect of body wood on electric guitar tone is greatly overestimated. The SH-6 is the Duncan distortion yeah? Very cool pickup. You might also look at the Dimarzio Super 2, that has the kind of mid heavy tone you're looking for
