Quick question since I am supposed to meet this seller tomorrow morning. I am looking at trading my 2007 MIM Fender for a jackson kelly. the pics look nice and I'm assuming its a MIJ but he says he cant find a serial number. here is a pic, any ideas. I know to be careful but any hints about non serial guitars. (I know they are out there, had a MIK.)

The chrome hardware and transparent finish makes me think it's an older X series of some kind. To be honest I haven't had much to to with those models so I'm not sure where they're made. Looks cool though :)

hehe, I figured out why he wanted to trade after I got the Kelly home. He mentioned when we met that he wasn't that into tremelos. I know why, the Kelly has a lic. Floyd and he didn't know the first thing about setting the intonation. after 30 min of tweeking and tuning it is all set. The fret board is a bit wider than my LTD but I'll get used to it.
BTW, he said the neck had a sticker on it. Korean maybe?

Well, I changed strings today. I think it had some .10 on it cause they were pretty stiff. I just had to switch to my .008s.
Anyhoo, I took the chance to take the neck off and see what kind of markings I could find. I confirmed from the neck heel that it is a KE3. The pocket had a date of 2003. I will post pics at some point to see if any of the other scribbles mean anything. I'm sure some are proof marks. but it looks like the whole company inspected it with all the marks.
Also confirmed that its a one piece body and not ply but I'm pretty sure there is a maple ply on top for the transparent finish.

Hahahaha awesome deal dude! Same as the one I got on my RR3, the guy was selling it on the 'bay as an RX10D (and at a reasonable price for one of those too) but the scratch plate and Duncan pickups tipped me off and I snapped it up quick smart. Mine's a 2006 if I recall correctly, construction is a 2 piece body with a flame maple veneer on top. I'd love to see some more pics of your Kelly, the finish looks really cool. Not sure I've seen one in that colour before. How do you find the pickups? Does the the KE3 have the JB/Jazz combo same as the RRs?

I'm loving the sounds from the Duncan Designed pups. I think they are both Detonators? With the lighter gauge strings I'm dropping down to 2 trem springs. I'll have to see if I have to drop the pups a little to keep them from pulling the strings out of tune and how that will effect the overall sound. I'm loving the fret board. The jumbo frets are like my LTD only there is more room on the board for my fat fingers. I think I'll start another tread about the neck markings. Overall I couldn't be happier with the deal. I wasn't playing my strat because the neck was a bit thick after playing a v shape fender neck and then the LTD. Now its hard to choose which ax to pick up first. I'm thinking for gigging I'll use the LTD first and have the Kelly for back up so it gets less wear and scars.

Hmmm... interesting. Never tried the Duncan Designed pickups, although I've heard they're very solid for the money. I wasn't completely satisfied with the JB/Jazz combo in my RR; the JB just always seemed a little raw and harsh for me, although the Jazz was great for cleans and smooth legato lines. I ended up switching them out for the EMG Alexi Laiho signature bridge pickup and preamp set with an ordinary EMG HZ-H2N in the neck position. Works a treat, the little preamp booster really makes a huge difference. I used to play LTDs too but after getting my Jacksons they just didn't seem to suit me any more so I ended up selling them on.

Not quite ready to ditch the LTD just yet. It's the first I've owned and I'm really impressed with it. The quality is there for sure, it just has a narrow neck and I have fat fingers. As far as the pups and hardware go, it's awesome.
