I ended up buying this Jackson that looks like a DK2 but has a truss rod plate that says ASM V. It also has a neck plate that says "Jackson" and the serial number "9686309". After getting it home and carefully comparing it to my DK2M, I started having doubts so I took the neck off and found this in the neck pocket: "DK2 SP" and in smaller letters "2002 9 24". Did someone switch neck plates and sell me a Jackson made in India in September 2002?

No, Henry.. All DK2 models were produced in Japan.. There has never been any other DK2 production outside of Japan... Odds are the neck plate has been changed (the one on it indicates 1996 production)... I have no idea where you are, but people there seem to really like taking their Jacksons apart...

Thanks for the quick reply.
MIJ! Well that's a relief! For a moment there I thought I got taken in by my own impulsiveness. Do you know what the "SP" after the "DK2" in the neck pocket ( "DK2 SP" and the date is also stamped on the end of the neck) means?
BTW: I am in Miami. So that must tell you a lot about people here taking guitars apart. Someone has been openly advertising an obviously fake Fender Strat on the local CL here as an American Standard Fender Stratocaster. Everything down here is buyer beware. The DK2 SP was $175.00 and for that price I took a gamble. For a moment there I thought I lost. But I figure for $175.00 a MIJ Jackson isn't a bad deal.
Thanks again for all the identification info you have been providing. Identifying Jacksons is tricky.

The SP must mean "Special" or something, not entirely positive on that.. And I would say you got a pretty good deal.. Yeah, fakes are everywhere now, it pays to be a little on the apprehensive side...
