Just wondering if anyone knows what pro series models will use Alder bodies apposed to basswood? I prefer the sound of alder or mohogany over basswood.

All of the new Pro Series are alder bodied according to Jackson..

thanks for the information, also wondering if all the pro series are bolt on neck, musicians friend catalog seems to have conflicting info from the website.

The Dinky models are bolt on, the rest of the lot is neck through..

thanks for the additional information, hoping the bolt ons are more than just rebadged mexican strats although the newer mexican strats do have improved workmanship, (think they are built at the same location). Heard the neckthroughs are built in Asia.

You are correct, bolt ons are built in Mexico, neck throughs in Asia..

Talking about an especific model from Pro Series, The Soloist SL3, is this guitar still produced? I've found it in a brazilian store, but I'm not assured it's a brand-new guitar. Furthermore, I was searching for this guitar on previous Jackson's catalogs and the only one which had this model was from 2006. The clerk told me it was from this year, but it seems hard to believe in him.

No, the SL3 is no longer produced, but it may be what is called "NOS".. NOS means New Old Stock.. Look the guitar over.. Check for fret wear, pick marks, any rash on the back, signs of tool use in the hardware, all of these would indicate a used guitar..

Thanks for answering so quick. What if the guitar has undergone a restoration? I did love that guitar, however I'm afraid of buying an used one and pay R$4600,- (more than US$2000). Is there another way to find out if it is a NOS guitar or not?
P.S.: This price in Brazil is completely normal for a top brand-new guitar, unfortunately.

If the guitar has undergone any restoration, the hardware will show it.. What is done on the bench in those situations is far different than the assembly process in the factory, and it will show in the slots in the screws and things of that nature.. Look it over very closely.. If possible, get them to take the control cavity cover off, and check the solder joints.. Even the import models have very neat and clean solder application.. If anything has been done, it will be very easy to spot.. Also, if it has sat that long, take a real close look at the fingerboard and make sure it hasn't dried out to the point it has cracked.. If you do buy it, I would advise stripping the strings off of it and giving the board a healthy coat of lemon oil..

I know prices are insanely different as you travel the globe, so I shudder when I hear what some other people are paying for these.. But if it feels like "home" to you, you gotta do what you gotta do...
