I recently purchased a Jackson SLAT3-6. Its my first Floyd Rose and it took me a couple of hours to set everything up but I got it done. I'm having an issue now though with the fine tuners. I have the guitar tuned to standard but the fine tuners are almost up to their highest limit and the G and D strings are still sharp even though the tuning screw is all the way up. What would I have to do to fix this problem? I unscrewed them all the way which is what the video tutorial i watched said to do. Was that a mistake or maybe I misunderstood them?

What you probably need to do is fix the intonation. The intonation may be a bit off because you said that you're tuned in standard but the G and D strings sound sharp. This is a huge pain but you have to unscrew the locking nut, and then tune your guitar all the way down until the strings are loose. Then on the saddles should be a screw similar to the ones on the locking nut and the long screws that connect to the saddles. Unscrew the screws of the saddles with the strings that are sharp and move the saddles forward towards the neck a little (If in the future you have strings that are flat, move them back away from the neck). Then lock them and tune up again and that might help. You might have to do this more than once to get it right but it's worth it in the end and you won't have intonation issues for a while. Also, when I talk about towards or away from the neck, I'm talking about direction incase if you get confused. Trust me, floyds can be confusing business.

I was thinking about unlocking the nut, tuning the guitar down slightly to be safe, then screw down all the fine tuners until they are all at about middle height, then re-tune and re lock the nut. Would that work?

Did you rely on the fine tuners to stay parallel after locking the nut? If you did, I have a different suggestion. Whenever I've changed string gauges, decided on a different tuning, or performed a set-up overhaul, I've found it necessary to make minor spring tension adjustments. This is 'not' ment to be tuning with the springs. It's a one time adjustment. You should be able to be in tune and parallel before locking the nut. I keep my fine tuners threaded in half way before locking the nut and usually only adjust them less than a turn if any.

Yes this will work. I always set my fine tuners in the middle when I change the strings on a floyd. Get the strings stretched, and in tune before locking the nut. After you lock the nut, if the fine tuners are centered there will be plenty of adjustment either way to get it perfect...
