It was when Fender bought Jackson. They were regrouping and couldn't offer him the same contract that he previously had. I think it went from like 12-13 guitars a year and a sig model to just one and a sig. I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly that was it. And let's face it. Dave Mustaine deserves more than one guitar a year. Can't blame Jackson though. They were going through alot at the time and I don't think Fender realized how important Dave was to the roster.
Could you enlighten me some more about contracts..Its not like they make them for free, he pays them to make the guitars, right?
I think he bought his first King V. One he ordered from the custom shop. He liked it and signed a deal with them. I don't know what his contract was, but I seriously doubt he ever had to pay for one after that. That's a guitar company's way of advertising. How many times do you think Dave has been seen on tv or in magazines, etc, with a Jackson in hand? Too many times to count. That's for sure.
