Since the lounge says,"discussion of general music related subjects" I thought it would be cool to see what everyone is playing through these days. 15-10 years ago everyone was going rack mount and now it would seem almost everyone is going back to combos and stomp boxes. I personally don't own any stomp boxes but that is a personal preference. Maybe one day I'll go that route, who knows?
This is my old setup. It is an Anvil 8 space rack. It contains a Samson 75w per channel stereo power amp, and ADA MP1 midi programmable tube preamp, and an Alesis Quadraverb. It was wired and sequenced in stereo, midi mapped, and run through the Marshall 1960b(stereo capable) seen in the pic with my Hellraiser solo 6. I used this on and off for the last 15 years in this configuration. It is still complete, wired and ready to go, I will probably buy a stereo capable 2x12 w/Celestions and use it at home in place of my Roland stereo cube.

Just after Christmas 2011 I received a year end bonus. I decided to spend a portion of it on "me"! My bandmate/fellow guitar player had bought a pair of Carvin V3 heads a few months back and I had started using the spare and fell in love with it. I decided I needed one of my own. I searched CL and ebay for a while leading up to Christmas and New Year waiting for one to pop up. I was just about ready to say screw it and plop down the money and buy a brand new one.($928 shipped to my door) when we got in touch with someone looking to sell one locally on CL. He had bought the upgrade faceplate($75) , upgraded the tubes and rebiased the amp, a factory footswitch was included($40) that selects between the 3 channels and has a boost button. It is in super mint condition, had never been gigged, etc.It also included the LED lighting. I gladly paid him $500 for it and could not be more pleased.
The very next day I found another CL listing. This guy was selling a Marshall 1960a stereo capable 4x12( angled top cab to go with my 1960b bottom cab, a perfect match). He was asking $500. I met him at his house, the cabinet was sitting in his breakfast nook with the factory slip cover on it, ABSOLUTELY dead mint. Not a speck of dust on it, not a scratch. I offered him $430 for it and he took it. Long story short I got the 1960a top cab and the head for $2 more than the head new. Both are mint, and I could not be happier.
Knowing all of this was inevitable, I asked Santa(my sister) for a new 6 space SKB rack. I loaded it with a Behringer rack tuner, a spare Alesis Quadraverb and a Tripplite rack mount power supply/surge protector. I uses a Rocktron midi footswitch for the QV.
Now I have a complete new rig and the old rack is still completely intact.
For those unfamiliar with the V3 head it is a 3 channel head. 50 or 100w. All tube. Master volume for all 3 channels. 1 channel is always clean, the ohter 2 can be set up however you wish. The clean sound is super sweet. The other 2 can be set anywhere from clean through warm fuzzy marshall all the way through full blown Mesa rectifier. This thing has ripping tight distortion(no need for a distortion pedal, ever), lots of bass when you need it, and shimmering cleans that rival a JC-1. Anyone in the market for a head or combo owes it to themselves to check one out. Did I mention that these are 100% USA built? Here is a picture of my rig now with the recent revamp.

Here is a better shot of the LEDs.

What are you playing through these days?
