Okay, product description everywhere else says that these are made with Basswood wings, whereas the website and the new catalog state that they have Mahogany wings.

Though, I'm very pleased that they decided to finally use Mahogany, why are these SLAT models with Mahogany not out yet? Or is this just mishap? If they plan to release these guitars with Mahogany, when will they come out? I'm actually really interested in one. now that they have decided to use mahogany.

The dealers only regurgitate the information provided to the by Jackson.. It is not the first time that the wrong information has been released. To be honest, I would take a look at a new SLAT in person and check to see what it's actually made of to be sure.. After all, according to Jackson's site info the KV2 has had jumbo frets for years when in actuality it has been built with medium tall frets for years..

How can you identify the wood used when the guitar is in hand? You'd have to try really hard to make it out while listening to it or by analysing the grain. That body wood is a questionable specification- just about every guitar bar that one with a cobalt blue shade is mahogany-bodied, according to its specification sheet. It would be ideal if we had midrange- upper midrange models that are not made in basswood.

Basically one would have to hope that the electronics cavity or trem cavity have some exposed wood somewhere.. You can search Google Image for basswood, mahogany, and other tonewoods to create a visual reference.. Due to the Lacey Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacey_Act_of_1900 ) , it can actually be far more difficult to use some of the tonewoods... Ask the Big G...

Now Sweetwater has listed the SLATTXMG-7 as a mahogany-bodied guitar. Maybe now the switch has begun? I do hope the switch extends across the X-series, with an entire series of mahogany-bodied guitars. Anything that's an alternative to the ESP/Ibanez instruments at a price that doesn't break the bank will be welcome. I can find some really cheap Ibanez/ESP guitars that are mahogany-bodied, and wish Jackson had some in that price bracket.

The company (in a reply to my email, which I got two days ago) says these are mahogany-bodied guitars, and information about them being basswood-bodied is incorrect and will eventually be corrected. The videos, though, may be hard to correct, and will have to be rendered again with the correct information. So there you have it- mahogany-bodied guitars with EMG actives, and Floyd Rose Special/TOM bridges. It took them time to get back to me, but once that bit of information is fixed, folks who want mahogany and not basswood will feel more assured buying one- if the country of origin ("too pricey for an Indonesian guitar") or piranha inlays ("I want shark-fins on the Jackson!") doesn't keep them from buying the SLATs.

Are there any ownership reviews of these guitars here? I'll be looking for some, and there are chances of them not really knowing the wood used.
