Sounds like you have a wiring issue.. Try following this...

Same issue here on a 2005 RR3 Black
Just picked this up yesterday, other then that it sounds awsome.

I wonder if it is pertinent to only certain models.

What is the year and color of your RR3?

I imagine once I get into the wiring it will be a bleeding issue,
more then likely caused by lack of sheilding or incorrect wiring.
unless someone has a more definate answer, would save alot of time,
thanks...

I have to turn the volume down on one of the pups in order to use the selector as a kill switch.

You would have to turn the volume down on one pickup to use the selector as a kill switch even if the wiring issue is corrected.. There are too many factors involved in the wiring to give a difinitive answer without having the guitar in hand.. It could be a bad volume pot, selector switch, wiring, or solder joint.. Too many variables.. I have a guitar that had the same issue, but it's the only non Jackson I own so my problem doesn't help..

Sorry about that, one word can change a sentence so drasticly.
** CORRECTION**
I have to turn the volume down on BOTH of the pups in order to use the selector as a kill

let me explain what happens when using the selector as a kill switch
Volume down on the neck pickup
Volume up on the bridge pickup

when you strike a chord, then switch to the neck pup you will still hear the bridge pickup bleed into the mix. in order to kill it, you will have to drop the volume on both pickups..

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the switch in my case, but it wasn't on a Jackson..

I have the same problem on my used RR3. It's still effective as a kill switch but the volume off is only at 80% off.

Also, I'd like the volume to come up a bit more slowly .. is this just a matter of getting a premium volume pot in there ?
