Hey everyone, I'm Ken. I own a few Jackson guitars and absolutely love them!
My latest find was this beautiful condition 1987 custom shop SL1. Upon opening up the tremolo cover, I saw this..MIGUEL 9483...in pencil unpainted. Anyone have any info on this? I figured it was someone who did the final inspection or did the painting.

Nice to have you on board, Ken.. Sorry for the long delay, getting ready for the holiday here..

Prior to 1989, all Jacksons we custom builds, therefore yours is a Soloist. The model designations ( RR1, SL1, SL2, etc ) didn't begin until then. That is when Jackson began standard production as opposed to build to order.

The number 9483 is the work order number assigned after build specs are finalized with the customer, and Miguel is most likely the luthier that built the guitar. Assembly, wiring, and final inspection are all signed off on the hang tag that came with the guitar, and it's a shame that you don't have it.

It looks to be in phenomenal condition for its age, and I love the three mini toggles.. Congratulations on your new addition..

Yes, it is just about perfect except for one small ding near the pickup mounting ring and a tiny speck of missing paint at the tip of the headstock...a real case queen!
