I continue to have open string issues, particularly on B string, sometimes on others. I've made all the adjustments I can regarding strut rod, string height, etc. On open string, it almost sounds like a sitar, yet the string is not touching any fret, nor close to any fret. When I loosen the string and move it around the nut slot, re-tune, the open string starts off sounding fine, then goes back to sitar like (this happens whether plugged in to amp or not). Fretted strings sound fine. I've even changed over to thicker strings, but the result is the same. I can only conclude that the problem is the nut. So, the question is, how hard is it to remove the existing nut, and what glue do I use to install replacement?

I've taken the nut measurements and find that the black Tusq XL model PT-6643-00 meets the dimensions, other than it being 2 mm too high, which I imagine I can sand down. Does this solution make sense?
Thanks

Getting the old nut off can be a bit of a challenge, noting the headstock angle on a Jackson.. Take your time and be careful.. As for glue, any wood glue will work, Titebond is a good quality glue, just don't use a lot of it..

This may help:

Got the nut replaced fairly easily. The extreme angle of the high E and B strings looked like a bit of a problem as they would slide out of the slot when tightened. Pushed them in tightly and problem solved. The problems with the open string sound disappeared. A remaining issue is lack of sustain on high E and B, when compared to the other strings. String and pickup height have been confirmed. What should I consider next?
