Picked up a body and neck recently because the neck was a really nice piece of birdseye maple. The headstock had a Jackson logo that looked like it was painted on but when I removed the neck from the body, I found "Jackson" and a trademark R imprinted on the heel. Has Jackson always stamped their necks like that?
I don't think the body is Jackson. It has one of those odd neckplates that curves down on one side.

Nope, not normal... what you have there is a "woodburn" neck. Back in the day, Jackson actually sold parts such as necks, pickups... etc. These necks usually had no factory logo on the headstock, but always had "Jackson" woodburned into the heel. These necks were sold as replacement parts, and did not come from the factory mated with a body. They are awesome necks, but if you find a guitar that has one of those necks, the neck is not original to the body and its essentially a mutt.

Thats a hell of a nice piece of wood! Good score!

Thanks for that info. I paid $40 for the neck and body so it looks like I got a good deal. I'll have to find a good body to put the neck on.

Wow thats a great deal! Id suggest maybe a newer Charvel SoCal or SanDimas style body... their 22 frets and 2-1/4" heel would fit that neck perfectly! Theyre all over the place so youve got a pretty good choice of colors too. Does it have a Floyd shelf?

Oh well then youre set! Thats gonna make one hell of a guitar, dont forget to post pics when you get it together. I would recommend filling all of those mounting holes at the heel and starting fresh when you get a new body, some of those dont look too healthy.
