Hello, Can anyone help me identify my Jackson guitar??
The guy who bought it new sold it to my friend around 1990. It has bolt-on neck, floyd rose tremolo with lockdowns on neck, volume and tone knobs with 3 way round toggle switch inline with the 2 knobs. 2 humbucker pickups (replaced). 24 frets on rosewood fretboard with dot inlays (not offset) neck plate is chrome and says Jackson 7980. headstock is not reversed and says Jackson in large letters followed by Grover Jackson in small letters. Guitar body and headstock are dark blue and all hardware is black. the upper back side is beveled and has cut away circular area around neck plate. also have tweed case with red lining. everything believed to be original except pickups. here are some pics...yeah they kinda suck and yes I know I'm missing a string.

Thanks for the info. With so many exceptions to the various models, It's hard for me to pinpoint the model or date. The serial number (7980) is the real mystery though.

Thats a Japan only model, so it will be hard for us to find out exactly what model it is without the Japan only brochures. Any guitar that has either "Grover Jackson" or "Jackson Stars" somewhere on the headstock was intended for the Japanese market only. Audiozone.dk is an amazing site, but even it doesent have much by way of Japan only info. Its hard to come by over here in the 'states.

Thanks, I figured it was made in Japan due to the owners manual is written in japanese but wasn't sure.
