Oli Herbert starting playing guitar in 1988 with strong ambitions on becoming a fluent metal guitarist. His goals were expanded onto composition while studying the early works of Metallica. These provided the main tools of his theoretical analyses and built a solid foundation of the mechanics of metal. Oli went on to attend music school wherein he focused on classical and jazz guitar culminating in a classical guitar honors recital in 1994.. He started teaching guitar in 1993 and continues to do so on and off the road. He has done an instructional program for Rockhouse which won instructional Dvd of the year in 2009. Oli joined All That Remains in 1999 and has been on all six of the bands recordings and all of their tours spanning 2002 to the present. Stylistically, his lead work in All That Remains has a neoclassical flavor while drawing upon motivic elements. He cites guitarist Andy Laroque from King Diamond as his biggest influence, especially in his use of vibrato and overall phrasing. Oli has recently come on board with Jackson and will be on tour supporting the bands latest release in the year to come.
